IOM Trains Ukrainian Law Enforcers in Conflict-related Threats of Human Trafficking


In November 2016 in Odesa, IOM conducted three trainings for police officers, investigators, prosecutors, judges and border guards as well as representatives of NGOs and social services from nine oblasts bordering or located close to the Donbas conflict area (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolayiv).

Minorities’ situation in Ukraine in focus of the government, civil society and international organizations


The Office of Ukraine’s Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) gathered more than one hundred representatives of the Ukrainian Government, international organizations and civil society at a conference organized in Kyiv on 3 November 2016. The aim of the conference was to discuss and analyze how two-and-a-half years of conflict influenced tolerance and perception of minorities in Ukraine.

International Conference in Kyiv Addressed the Situation with Journalists Safety


On 25 October the International Conference “Safety of Journalists in Ukraine. Ending Impunity” was held in Kyiv to assess the current situation with the safety of journalists. Its participants developed recommendations on ending impunity for crimes against journalists and eliminating occasions when journalists are prevented from carrying out their professional activity in various ways.

The event is organized by the UN Refugee Agency jointly with the National Culture Art and Museum Complex ”Mystetskit Arsenal” and the volunteer initiatives. The festival aims at drawing attention to the stories of people, which were forced to leave their homes.

Over 110,000 displaced persons and conflict-affected people assisted by IOM


s of end of May 2016, IOM has assisted over 110,000 vulnerable internally displaced persons and conflict-affected people in 21 regions of Ukraine. They were provided with cash assistance, medicine, hygiene items, clothes and shoes, household items, legal counselling and psychological support, as well as livelihood support.

Germany provided EUR 2 million to UNHCR for support to conflict affected population in Ukraine


KYIV, Ukraine, 6 May 2016 (UNHCR) – German Federal Government contributed the amount of EUR 2 million to the UN Refugee Agency in order to support its project “Humanitarian assistance and protection for IDPs and other vulnerable persons affected by the crisis in Ukraine”.

On 28 April 2016, representatives of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, other state bodies and non-governmental organizations together with representatives of EU Member State embassies in Ukraine took part in the seventh monitoring visit to the Migrant Accommodation Centre in Chernihiv Region (Chernihiv MAC).
